It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

This week we put up our Christmas tree. My husband and I have been having a Christmas tree battle since we met...almost ten years ago. He likes real trees...and I like fake. I hate the smell of real trees (yuck!), hate the mess (needles and sap!), and hate flimsy branches. This year I talked him in to a fake tree! First off we don't have a lot of room for a tree, so we needed something skinny...and secondly, most of our ornaments are so heavy. In the past I remember two different years our trees literally fell over because they couldn't handle our ornaments!

Behold our tree! Cute right?

Are you all ready for the holidays? Today I officially finished all of my holiday shopping. I'm so very proud of myself. The last few years I only finished up the week of Christmas...and I wasn't going to let that happen again. I can't take the stress of it all. If any of you need any shopping tips or would like to see more gift guides please let me know! I feel like I have to shop for the most difficult people ever...so I'm pretty good at finding the right kind of gift.

It isn't Christmas without my Grandma's ugly singing angel on top of my tree.

dress: Everly purchased at Pema NY/sweater: gift/tights: c/o Silkies/booties: Silence + Noise

So those of you that know me (or read my blog regularly) know that I'm 100% addicted to legwear. I probably have about 40 pairs of tights...and it's not nearly enough. My friends at Silkies reached out to me and sent over a few pairs this week. The tights that I'm wearing in these photos is probably one of my favorites that they sent me. If you haven't checked out their site yet, stop on by. They have so many great styles...it's almost overwhelming...in a good way!

Happy holidays everyone!!!

To me there is nothing more comfortable (and chic!) than a dress, tights, and tall boots.

I had to share this with all of you, because it is beyond awesome! Every decade seems to have its own signature look...and Cut proved this by putting together a video showing a model getting her hair and makeup done to represent each decade.

Which of these looks is your favorite? I have to say, I'm all about 1960!

Take Two...

scarf: gift/shirt: H&M/skirt: Brooklyn Industries/tights: H&M/booties: Silence + Noise available at Urban Outfitters

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, and hopefully you're enjoying the day off and relaxing...I know I am. I was all set to do a little photoshoot outside today, but then plans changed. As soon as we went outside it was way colder than I thought it was going to be, and insanely windy. If you thought I was going to take my winter coat off for a little outfit shoot, you have got to be kidding me! So photos inside our apartment will have to do (and I seriously hate doing indoor shoots...as you can see from my face in that first photo).

Oh well...

I really wanted to show off this adorable skirt I picked up at Brooklyn Industries about a month or so ago. Isn't it just darling? Not only are the straps removable, but it also has pockets! Instant love.

I realized that I need to get more scarves in my collection (and start wearing the ones I have more often). If you are in need of some scarf inspiration I suggest checking out this YouTube video by Wendy's Look Book. Here she shows you 25 ways to wear a scarf in 4.5 minutes. It's an old video...but one of my favorites! Simply brilliant.

I hope you all have a fantastic Friday!!!

ARE YOU WATCHING?: House of DVF

Okay, I have a confession...I'm 100% addicted to E!'s "House of DVF". In my mind Diane von Furstenberg can do no wrong, but the girls who are on the show trying to earn the title of DVF's Brand Ambassador can't seem to do much right. Constant challenges, lots of drama, and Diane's words of wisdom. I just can't get enough.

Have you all been watching? Who do you think is going to win over DVF and get this dream job? Currently, I think I'm rooting for Brittany. But my favorites seem to change week to week.

What I want to know is why didn't Diane reach out to me for the job? *Sigh*

Trend Alert: LWD

Just because winter is right around the corner is no reason to stop wearing white. Ladies, push your little black dresses to the back of your closet and make room for the LWD (little white dress). Over the last few weeks I have seen this look worn constantly on the red carpet and at events by celebrities. And I have to say, I kind of love it. Here are some of my favorites...

Keira Knightly in Chanel Couture

Kate Beckinsale in Zimmermann

Nicola Peltz in Gucci

Love the LWD look but don't have the budget for a top designer piece? No worries! I put together a must have list of little white dresses...all of which are priced under $80. So get ready to start shopping!!!

Lace Dress available at H&M- $29.95

Cooperative Long-Sleeve Text Dot Inset Dress available at Urban Outfitters- $79

Sancha Long Line Asymmetric Zipped Tux Dress available at Missguided- $66.48

60's Shift Dress in Rib with 3/4 Sleeves available at ASOS- $56.85

Which style of a LWD will you be wearing this season???

Beauty Buzz- Kat Von D Tattoo Liner

Over the last couple years I have been practicing the winged liner look. I've tried so many different brands, applicator styles (brushes, felt tip, etc.), and colors. But I have finally found my most favorite liquid liner: Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper- ink black

This waterproof liner really stands up to the test. My allergies were bothering me the other day, and it held up even with watery eyes...yet it came off so easily with some makeup wipes. What I really love about it is the brush applicator. It goes on so smoothly. I get a perfectly effortless winged liner look in seconds. It's my new must have item in my makeup case! I'm obsessed!

Have you tried this liner yet? What about any other items in Kat Von D's collection?

*This is not a sponsored post. It's just my new favorite makeup item and I know you all will love it!

Stop Shaving...It's Movember

Today is November 1st, and that means Movember is here! Every year the company I work for puts a team of people together who want to raise awareness for men's health by raising money and not shaving. I'm on the team this year...and no, that doesn't mean I'm growing a beard...just supporting the men in my life and my team.

Movember is touching very close to home this year. A few weeks ago I found out that a very close family friend has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. This is his second time battling this disease. Last time they removed his prostate and did radiation...so now this time there is really nothing they can do. A few things to slow the progression of his cancer, but that is it. It's really upsetting, and I don't want to see any other men have to go through this.

Here are some facts on men's health:

  • Did you know that 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime?
  • Around  8,820 cases of testicular cancer will be diagnosed in 2014.
  • 1 in 4 adults in the United States will experience a mental health problem this year.
Please help me and my team raise money!!! Any and all donations would make a huge difference in out fight. And if you can't donate, please repost and tell your friends and family about this Mo Sista's commitment to Movember. Spreading the word is so important!

HAPPY MOVEMBER!

Halloween- Last Minute Ideas

Happy Halloween everyone! It's been about nine years (yes, I said nine years) since I dressed up for Halloween. I always love dressing up. Getting my husband to seem excited about joining in on the fun is another story. But this year we have some amazing costumes planned. We're dressing up as Andy and Brand from The Goonies. I cannot wait! I'll be posting photos tonight on my Instagram...so stay tuned.

Here's a sneak peek of the sweater I made for my Andy costume.

It seems this year that sooooo many people I know are putting together last minute costumes because they don't know what to be. Some of my friends still don't know what to be...and others just figured it out yesterday! Since I personally know so many people with this issue this Halloween...I'm sure some of my readers might be in the same pickle.

Here are some super simple ideas that you might be able to put together from your own closet:

-A pin-up girl: wear a pin-up style dress, curl your hair, bust out your eyeliner and red lipstick. See, you can look adorable for Halloween and not look slutty. Check out some of my favorite pin-up style hair/makeup tutorials by Cherry Dollface.

-Bridesmaid/Prom Queen/Miss USA Winner: wear a formal dress that you have in the back of your closet. Add some flowers, a sash, a tiara...whatever.

-Mime: black and white striped shirt, black pants or skirt, beret, and some face paint.

-Sailor: everyone has something nautical in their closet. Break out the red, white, and blue...and anything with stripes and stars on it!

Another way to go is just wear something very simple and do some amazing makeup. Here are some fantastic tutorials:

The Girl with Many Eyes

Creepy Cheshire Hat

Breakfast at Zombie's

Bambi Deer

Halloween Leopard Cat

Comic/Pop Art Character

I hope some of these ideas helped inspire you! Please let me know what you plan on dressing up as. Happy Halloween!!!

From Boston With Love

Nothing makes me happier than floral prints, great finds at thrift stores, over the knee socks, beautiful gardens, and jaw dropping architecture.

Boston, I had a fantastic time! xoxoxo

Dress Like A Celebrity- Emma Stone

Emma Stone stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon the other day looking adorable as always. Such a simple look...yet she is so chic. If I could recommend two things for everyone to have in their wardrobe right now it would be red pumps and something (anything) with a windowpane print.

I put together a very affordable ensemble that is similar to Emma's look.

Dress Like A Celebrity

1) Merino Sweater available at Gap- $49.95
2) Pleated Windowpane Skirt available at Forever 21- $14.80
3) New Look Solitude Heeled Pumps available at ASOS- $34.09

What is your feeling on a windowpane print? Do you love it or hate it?

Beautiful Beacon Hill

This past weekend was so lovely. My husband and I took a much needed getaway out of NYC...and to Boston. Even though I got sick when I was there (and I'm still nursing a terrible head cold), I had a great time wandering around the city, taking in all of the amazing architecture, eating some incredible food, and even meeting up with my cousin and her husband. Such a great time!

My husband snapped these photos of me while walking around Beacon Hill. I think this neighborhood was my favorite in all of Boston. The homes there were a dream. So charming!

Boston Bound

Hey everyone! After a crazy week (both with work and at home), my husband and I are getting ready for a mini-trip to Boston this weekend. We're taking the train up on Friday morning and will be heading back to NYC on Sunday. If you know of anything that I should see and do...let me know! I have only been there once or twice when I was a kid, and my husband visited Boston once while in college. Right now we're planning on doing a lot of exploring, shopping, eating, and photo taking. My cousin and her husband live just outside of Boston, so we're hoping to see them this weekend for dinner and/or drinks.

Please be sure to let me know your favorite restaurants, shops, neighborhoods...as any and all tips and recommendations are appreciated. And if you are in the area, be sure to let me know! I'd love to meet up while I'm in town!

I'll be sure to do a post (or two) after I get back...but in the meantime be sure you are following along my Instagram to keep up with my adventures!

Crimson Glow

Tonight my husband and I took a trip down memory lane. I busted out my DVD box set of My So-Called Life. This has always been one of my all time favorite shows ever. I used to think I was exactly like Angela Chase (and still kind of do), loved Rayanne's free spirit, and had the biggest crush on Jordan Catalano (who didn't?!?!).

Looking back now one of my favorite things about the show has to be the grunge fashion from the 90's. I love it! What makes me even happier is even today in 2014 Angela Chase's wardrobe is still very much in style. Now let's start shopping!!!

Bonfire Stories Tunic available at ModCloth- $39.99

Plaid Flannel Shirt Dress available at Forever 21- $24.90

Dream a Little Dream Dress available at Free People- $108

Jess Dress available at Free People- $88

Somedays Lovin Steamline Plaid Dress available at Urban Outfitters- $89

Which episode of MSCL was your favorite???
