3 Looks

Today we're featuring three looks that we came up with that use this Handknit Shawl-Collar Cable Vest from J. Crew. We want you to incorporate some color (and fun!) into your outfits. Just because we're using a rather conservative piece in these looks doesn't mean they have to be blah and boring.

Dear Snapshot Fashion...

Dear Snapshot Fashion,
I have a problem. My engagement pictures are around the corner and I'm in a desperate need to find a cute little dress for them... I don't want spend a fortune on it, but a girl does what a girl needs to do! ;-) So if you have any ideas, please help me out. The photographer told me it should be a plain color and we are shooting on the beach.

Have a great day,
Séverine

*********************************************

Séverine,
First of all, let me start out by saying CONGRATS on your engagement! Back to your question at hand...I was really excited when I got your email because I am always seeing a zillion different dresses out there that I just love. But the fact that the dress should be a solid color, it's a beach photo shoot, and right now it's off season (at least where I am) makes the answer to this question that much more difficult.
Here are some great tips I have that will possibly help you out in finding a dress that you'll love (and will look great on you!)---

1. I suggest that you check out the sale/clearance sections on your favorite store's website. Being that you're having a beach shoot I'm assuming that the weather is rather warm where you are. You will be able to find some great deals on some adorable sundresses from this past summer.

2. Don't be afraid of wearing some color. I'm not saying you have to wear color...but I do think that some bright and bold hues will look great in a photo. You should wear a color that flatters your skin tone.

3. When selecting a dress make sure you pick a style that shows off your best feature (and hides the ones that you aren't so crazy about).

Here are a few dresses that I just LOVE...and maybe you will too. Click on the image below to see where you can purchase them.

Would You Wear This?

Jessica Biel showed up to the UK Premiere of Easy Virtue at the 52nd London Film Festival in this black dress. Personally, I think this dress does NOTHING for her. Lately she has been seen wearing outfits that are much more fitted...a style she should stick to. This dress just looks like a huge inflated garbage bag! And a drop waist? Ugh...don't even get me started on that.

We want to know what you think of this look? Do you love it or hate it? Would you wear it if you had the chance?

Pick of the Day

I absolutely love everything that Mod Cloth has in their collection. Today I was browsing through their website and came across this Strawberry Fields Coat. It stopped me in my tracks! This polka-dot covered coat is bold yet very practical. It has a wide belt at the waist, so it is very figure flattering for every shape. Trust me, this coat won't stay in stock for long...so hurry and order one today before they sell out!

This season fringe is back and bigger than ever! It's a little bit flapper and a little bit Pocahontas. Add some fringe to your footwear, handbags, and clothing...no matter where you wear it, you'll look fabulous. Our only tip to you is to only wear ONE fringe item at a time...any more than that will just look silly.

Natalie Imbruglia was seen at Sir Richard Branson’s “Rock The Kasbah” Benefiting Virgin United at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel yesterday in this red sparkley number. What do you think of this look on Natalie? And how do you feel about her newly blonde hair?

Diane says: I feel that this dress is just overkill. Too red...too sparkley. I just feel that it ages her a lot. And as for her hair, I don't think it is totally terrible. I mean, she can sorta pull blonde off...but she is so much cuter as a brunette.

Halloween Costume Ideas

Elaine Benes has to be one of my favorite characters from Seinfeld. She did have a sense of style that was all her own...so being her for a Halloween party would be perfect, easy to put together, and so clever! This is what you'll need for this look: a floral granny style dress, a blazer (in any color), and a pair of two-toned shoes. You can also add some ankle socks and dangly earrings to get the Elaine vibe going strong. Also, make sure you do her signature hairstyle!!!

Beauty Buzz

Today I was talking to a friend of mine who wanted some tips on coloring her hair. I have been coloring my hair for years now (mostly because if I didn't my hair would probably be white...yes, I'm only 27...ugh!). Usually I will do it at home, only because salons can be so pricey. As I was sharing tips with her I thought, why not share them with all of my readers here at Snapshot Fashion.

*When coloring your hair at home be sure to pick a color that is in your color range. You will want to pick a hue that is either one shade lighter or one shade darker. Try not to venture too far outside that range...and if you want something more extreme please go to a salon.

*If you have never colored your hair before I'd suggest using a semi permanent color.

*Rub some Vaseline around your hair line, as well as on your ears. This will keep color from staining your skin. If you do get any color on your skin make sure you wash it away ASAP!

*Typically hair color is told to be put on your hair for around 30 minutes. What I always do is leave the color on my roots for about 20 minutes or so...and then I will add in the rest of the color to my ends for the remaining 10 minutes. Your roots take a lot longer to pick up the color...while your ends seem to just soak it up right away.

*Some brands of at home hair color I recommend are: Garnier's 100% Color- which is my personal FAVORITE, Clairol's Perfect 10- hair color in 10 minutes flat, Revlon's Colorist- color stays vibrant because of a weekly Colorglaze treatment.
